2017 is finally here, and with it, came new song ideas. To start with, my interest in playing piano again, after so many years, has grown beyond scratching ideas on the iPad. In fact, I already ordered myself a physical MIDI keyboard. I would abstain from calling it a “real” keyboard, but it should be a good way to start again. Reviews seem to be quite good. It features only 37 keys, but I think this should be enough to get me started. Plus, it has the added benefit of being ultra portable. When living in a small apartment, this makes quite of a difference 😉
Anyway, more on the keyboard in a later post, because I am still waiting for it to arrive. I recorded the song sketch below, entirely within GarageBand (yeah, I know, I’d love to record in a more proper environment, but I am having some performance issues at the time). Guitar sections are played by my humble self, whereas I pre-programmed a trappy drum beat in GB, and added some Cuban-inspired loops in the same scale, for a more colorful sound. I think, I messed up the compression at the end, but hey, GarageBand (this was a shameless excuse, I just need to sit down and learn how to compress properly).
As always, I am open to hear your feedback!
